Kathy Kennedy
Regional Institute for Health & Environmental Leadership

What is power, really? How is it different from authority? What power do you actually have? These concepts, as well as the notions of leadership and engagement, will be addressed in this session. The focus will be on the “myths” and the “musts” of empowering others at work. Participants will share the areas in which they would like to be empowered, and ideas for how to give power and exercise their own power in their current work lives.

Duffy Swan
French Family of Companies

“Failure is simply a price we pay to achieve success.” John C. Maxwell, author of “Failing Forward, How to Make the Most of Your Mistakes.”

In this session Duffy Swan, well known Albuquerque businessman, will introduce us to the concept of using failure, mistakes and missteps to foster innovation and learning that will ultimately result in success both personally and professionally. Successful people and enterprises often have a non-linear path to that success that involves learning from mistakes. One element of growth is learning how to embrace the “zone of the unknown” and using it to expand one’s skills, knowledge, competencies and confidence. Following Duffy’s presentation, we encourage others to offer their own “fail forward” stories.

Duffy Swan is the Chair of the French Family of Companies.
