Alexis Avery

Alexis Avery, MPH, PhD, is the Director for Training and Program Evaluation for the Public Health Division with the New Mexico Department of Health. Before joining the director’s office, she spent seven years as the Title V Maternal and Child Health epidemiologist. While living and studying in New Orleans, she was the program evaluator for the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health (TUXCOE). She received her MPH in 1999, and her PhD in public health in 2008, both from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Alexis is the mother of two girls, and in her spare time, she and her husband facilitate a 50 hour comprehensive sexuality education course for middle school aged youth.

Erick J Aune

Erick J. Aune is a RIHEL alumnus, Advanced Leadership Training Program class of 2007 when he worked as the Long-Range Planner and then Planning Director for La Plata County, Colorado. Erick brought a land use planning background to the class of 2007 and recognizes the importance of the relationship between our built environment, especially transportation infrastructure and our physical and mental health. Since graduating in 2007, he has attended several “Autumn in Aspen” events, and has volunteered twice with the peer coaching program.

Erick is a 1994 M.S. graduate of Michigan State University and currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization. He enjoys working on active transportation issues in the region and the state and currently serves as Vice-President of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Planning Association.
